Ice Hockey Coaching Programme July09
Scottish Ice Hockey Coaching Programme
To all clubs - Senior, Junior and Recreational
Earlier this year information about the forthcoming Coaching Seminar was passed on to clubs as it essential that coaches who wish to keep their licences at the current status must attend.
I have attached a list of coaches whose dates for validation of their current licence status is either overdue / due / or about to be due. Please check the list to see if it includes anyone at your club. All coaches requiring re-validation should apply for the seminar below by filling in the attached form sending it back to me with full payment for the course. (Details below.)
Scottish Ice Hockey Coaching Seminar
July11th and 12th July at Dumfries Ice Bowl
The SIH School of Excellence will take place over the week 5th to 10th of July at Dumfries Ice Bowl. At the end of that week a Coaching Seminar will take place over two days to enable coaches to maintain their current licence status. Coaches who do not have to attend are of course also welcome to apply.
The course will run for two days and coaches can apply to attend for one day (Saturday or Sunday) or both days. The cost will be £35 for a one day attendance or £50 for both days.
It is hoped that the coaches from the Ottawa Senators programme who will be running the School of Excellence may be able to have some input.
A full agenda will be posted later but the topics are likely to include:
- Long Term Athlete Development
- Goaltending
- Effective Practices
- Off-ice for Skaters and Goalies
- Improving Player Recruitment and Retention
- Special Teams
- Skating
- Checking
- Small-Area Games and Half-Ice Practice.
The Long Term Athlete Development will be a vital part of the future of Scottish hockey and it is essential that clubs and coaches are familiar with the ideas for our Scottish Model.
Several applications have already been received and we hope for a large turn out. Please reply promptly by sending application to me at
