SIH REPLY TO DUMFRIES NEWSPAPER ARTICLE

Letter to the Editor of Dumfries & Galloway Standard sent Wednesday 22nd February on behalf of Scottish Ice Hockey for publication in the letters page.

Article "Sharks 'snub' baffles ex-Dutch coach" published in your paper Friday February 17th

Dear Editor,

With reference to the above article the Dutch Ice Hockey Federation have confirmed that Mr. Moore coached Team Netherlands "for a couple of months" and Hockey Canada the Governing body for Ice Hockey in Canada have confirmed that Can Am Hockey Schools are not registered with them and that their registry system have no file for a Duncan Moore.

Mr. Moore is quoted saying "When I watch them being coached, its the same boring old stuff all the time," Mr. Moore is entitled to his opinion, however is not a Qualified Coach.

Scottish Ice Hockey (SIH) is no different to Football, Swimming or any other sport regarding Coaches having to have the necessary Coaching Qualifications and is regulated by Ice Hockey UK (IHUK) and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and all Coaches have to have a minimum of IIHF approved Coach Level 2 and our National Head Coach based at Dumfries is an IIHF approved Coach Level 3, an IIHF approved Coaching Instructor and is currently a Coach with IHUK Great Britain Teams Prospects. SIH Coaches regularly attend IIHF Coaching Development Clinics throughout the world. SIH went through a comprehensive audit only last year by IIHF, the World Governing Body for our sport. The audit was satisfactory and dealt with all aspects of the way our sport is governed here in the UK, this included all Coaching Programmes, Player Development Programmes and their deliverance.

SIH have a Partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council and because of this, we successfully have achieved over the last 2 years better placings at Hull Conference for our Teams with 3 teams out of 4 reaching the finals in their respective age groups. More Scottish players have been picked to represent Great Britain Teams, to attend School of Excellence and IIHF Players and Coaches Development Camps.

Regards
Jim Anderson
Chairman Scottish Ice Hockey.
