“Who said Scottish Ice Hockey Was Dead?”
Scottish Conference Teams at U11, U13, U15 and U17 competed in the 17th year of the English Ice Hockey Association’s Junior Inter-Conference Championship Tournament in Hull at the weekend, competing against their same age groups, Conference Teams from South East, South West, Midlands and North England, the Scottish Teams had their most successful Conference in the 17 year history.

Scotland U11, U13 and U17 reaching the Finals in their Groups whilst the U15’s were 5th in theirs. The U11 and U17 were beaten in regular time; the U13’s lost in a penalty shoot out, after regular time and 5 minutes overtime.

Scotland Conference Teams made up seven players of the Championship All-Stars Teams, U11 Garry Simpson, Kirkcaldy, U13 Ben MacFarlane, Ben Edmonds both Dundee, U15 Renny Marr, Kirkcaldy, U17 Niall Quinn, Callum Adamson both Kirkcaldy and James Smith, Dundee.

Scottish Coaches chosen at their age group as Coaches of the Tournament, U13’s, Richard Phillips and Steve Garrigan, Scottish Development Programme and Dundee, U17’s, Paul Heavey, Scottish Development Programme, Martin Grubb, Scottish Development Programme National Coach and Solway.

Ten players have been invited to Great Britain U18 selection camps – Jordan Cownie, James Smith both Dundee, Callum Adamson, Josh Leslie, Craig Moore and Niall Quinn, Kirkcaldy, Joseph Coulter, Ryan Adams, Conor McCallum, Solway and James Wallace, North Ayr, with U13 Ben Edmonds, Dundee and U15 Jordan Crowe, Kirkcaldy invited as future prospects for Great Britain U18’s.

Scottish players Ben McFarlane, Ben Edmonds, Dundee, Mathew Headland, Kirkcaldy and Jack Durkacz, Elgin invited to E.I.H.A. U14’s School of Excellence.

Senior Teams Fife Flyers and Solway Sharks may be floundering with another short Season of Games in the Northern League and with other Scottish Teams competing in an 11 Import Elite League, the above achievements would indicate that the Self Funding, Scottish National  Development  Programme in conjunction with Dumfries & Galloway Council, in its second year, seems to be on track. However we need to ask “British Ice Hockey” when are you going to come together and do something constructive for our promising young players.

Full statistics from Conference will be posted when they become available.

Games from the Championship Tournament can still be viewed on www.FastHockey.com
