Scottish Ice Hockey Limited Sign Contract with Dumfries and Galloway Council
Over the last 6 months Dumfries and Galloway Council has been working hard with Scottish Ice Hockey Limited, with a view to developing a robust partnership agreement which will benefit ice hockey from grass roots level through to Excellence / National level. The partnership has also allowed the Ice Bowl the privilege and honour of being named Scotland's first Centre of Excellence for ice hockey.
The partnership will allow the SIHL to make use of vital resources in Dumfries such as ice time, dry land training facilities, fitness facilities and the state of the art audio visual technology at DGOne. It is planned that the national training programme will make use of dedicated ice time, (a minimum of 75 hours per year) to allow all national age groups to train and play; hopefully leading to greater success at Nottingham, Hull and greater representation on the GB front. It is also planned that National and Club coaches will be able to attend professional development courses hosted by D&G Council, as well as Dumfries being a base for SIHL coaching and referee courses.
The partnership will also benefit our local players, club and development programme. Promoting ice hockey across the region, allowing local players to learn from the best coaches in the country, and provide an aspirational target for all up and coming players.
The partnership runs, initially, for 3 years.
